Thirty Years of Journaling Experience.......
My name is Jane Pace, your journal writing coach. My journaling experience started for me in a studio apartment on Esplanade and Burgundy in New Orleans. I was 27, heartbroken and all wrapped up in emotional knots. One hot June afternoon I sat down with a small blank journal and pen and wrote my heart out. I’ve been keeping journals ever since that day. And I’ve learned a few things along the writing path. I think my writing in private pages has saved me a few times and also brought me to my knees. But over the years I’ve learned from others how to create meaningful dialogues and not stay trapped in depressive states, unhappy relationships and nightly addictions. My journals contain most of my experiences: my despair, my loves, my gratitude for others, my unanswered questions, recordings of unresolved struggles, remembrances of those passed on, my endless to-do lists and wild and informative nightly dreams. I also have visual art journals filled with a spectrum of colors and images that reveal hidden untapped wisdom. Sometimes with visual journaling I am able to reach a deeper place where my writing hasn’t taken me. Journaling has been like a relief map for my life showing the hills, the peaks and the valleys. I hope you will find this tool to be a helpful guide as you travel about your life’s experiences and to keep you conscious of who you are today in this moment. As Rainer Maria Rilke said, “There is only one journey: going inside yourself.” FORMAL CREDENTIALS I have a Master of Social Work from Tulane University School of Social Work, New Orleans, LA. and am presently a psychotherapist and journal writing coach in Denver, Colorado. I am a Certified Instructor of the Journal to the Self® method created by Kathleen Adams, premier journaling expert, and author of several journaling books. Under her mentorship and supervision I became a Certified Applied Poetry Facilitator. This was awarded to me by the National Association of Poetry Therapy.I have studied the Ira Progoff At a Journal Workshop method and attended several weekend courses. During my many years I trained in and experienced in great depth the principles of Transactional analysis from games to scripts, assertiveness training, and gestalt therapy techniques. More recently I have studied the emotional freedom technique, and poetry and journal therapy techniques. I bring an eclectic approach to my coaching and counseling selecting from different theories and methods. In my career I have worked with many diverse populations that have included young single mothers, professional women in transition, the chronically mentally ill, caregivers, troubled teens, residents in health care facilities, school age children and those in mid-life crisis. It seems like I have worked with a whole spectrum of human beings and my experience has shown me we are all more the same than we are different. I believe that each of us is always doing the best that we can. I believe you are the best resource for determining what needs to happen for you and how to best achieve your dreams. I see myself as a facilitator and journaling coach in teaching you how to access your own wisdom, creativity and knowledge. Welcome to the journaling path.
